There was something really steady and meaningful about Teresa & Danny’s day, the kind of energy that makes you slow down and take it all in. Their romantic lakeside wedding at LakeSide Wedding Venue in Shawnee, Oklahoma was full of intentional choices, family history, and little moments that felt deeply personal. Even in the middle of winter, with the trees bare and the wind moving across the water, the whole day felt warm in a way that had nothing to do with the weather.

Getting Ready with Meaningful Details
The morning started quietly, with soft light coming through the windows and all of the small details laid out with care. Teresa incorporated so many meaningful pieces into her day, handkerchiefs from her grandmothers, her great grandmother’s teacup and saucer, and two Bibles that belonged to Danny’s grandfathers. Nothing felt random. Every piece had a story, and you could feel that as the day unfolded. One of my favorite parts of this time was watching Teresa get ready with her people. There was this calm, steady excitement not rushed, not overwhelming, just present. The kind of energy that lets you actually feel what’s happening instead of racing through it.

A Romantic Lakeside Wedding Ceremony in Shawnee, Oklahoma
The ceremony space at LakeSide Wedding Venue is something special. Unlike a lot of venues that simply face water, this one sits right on it. Standing at the arch, you’re looking straight out over the lake, with nothing blocking the view. And as the sun starts to set, it drops right across the water behind you, it’s one of those places that doesn’t need much to feel beautiful.
The wind off the lake absolutely showed up that day and honestly, it felt like part of the experience. Teresa’s cathedral-length veil was constantly catching the breeze, lifting and moving in a way that made everything feel a little more alive. It added so much movement to their ceremony, and somehow, even with the wind, the yellow rose petals lining the aisle stayed perfectly in place. It was simple, grounded, and full of intention exactly what it needed to be.

Golden Hour Portraits by the Water
As the sun started to drop, we stepped away for portraits along the lake, and this was one of those moments where everything just aligned. The light softened, the water reflected everything back, and the wind kept catching Teresa’s veil in the most effortless way. One of my favorite moments from this part of the day was just watching the two of them settle into it. There wasn’t any rush or pressure just space to breathe, to be together, and to actually feel married. Those in-between moments always end up being the ones that matter the most.

A Reception Full of Personality and Intention
The reception felt like an extension of who Teresa & Danny are, thoughtful, welcoming, and a little bit unexpected in the best way. Instead of a traditional dinner, they served chili and cornbread. Along with a full coffee and tea bar, and chose to skip alcohol entirely. It created such a cozy, connected atmosphere where people could really settle in and enjoy being together. And then there were the cakes, which honestly deserve their own moment.
Teresa’s sister and maid of honor, Kim (owner of Violet Beauregarde Cakes in Oklahoma City). Made over 20 cakes that were placed throughout the reception space. After Teresa & Danny cut their cake, the DJ invited guests to cut into the cakes at their own tables. And it instantly became this shared experience that everyone got excited about. There were even a few extra touches woven in throughout the night celebrating a birthday with its own cake instead of a traditional dance, and another surprise cake for the DJ’s daughter. It all felt intentional without being overcomplicated, which is such a hard balance to strike.

Why Winter Weddings in Oklahoma Are Underrated
I know winter weddings in Oklahoma don’t always get the hype. But this day is such a good example of why they should. It was February, the trees were bare, and you’d expect it to feel cold but instead. It was nearly 70 degrees. No harsh sun, no heavy heat, just soft light and comfortable weather that made everything feel easy.
There’s also something about winter that strips everything back in a really beautiful way. Without all the distractions of greenery, your focus naturally shifts to the people, the connection, and the meaning behind everything. Teresa & Danny leaned into that, and it made their day feel even more grounded. Choosing a weekday, a Tuesday in February also gave them more flexibility with vendors and allowed them to prioritize what mattered most. It’s one of those decisions that can make a huge difference, and this day showed just how well it can work!
