Not every wedding day needs to be a huge celebration to be incredibly meaningful. Rosie and Dallas chose an intimate Catholic wedding Mass at St. Thomas More University Parish in Norman, Oklahoma, surrounded by their closest family and friends, and it was such a beautiful reminder of what the wedding day is truly about. Instead of focusing on a large reception or elaborate timeline, their day centered on the Sacrament of Matrimony and the beginning of their marriage. Located on the University of Oklahoma campus, St. Thomas More is one of my favorite churches for Catholic weddings, and Rosie and Dallas’ wedding was the perfect example of why.

Why St. Thomas More University Parish Is One of My Favorite Catholic Wedding Churches
St. Thomas More University Parish is such a beautiful church, both in person and in photographs. The large windows fill the space with natural light, creating a bright and peaceful atmosphere while still maintaining the reverence you want in a Catholic church. The warm wood details, stunning sanctuary, and traditional architecture make it feel timeless. One of my favorite things about weddings here is the way the liturgy fills the entire space. Father Brian Buettner, who celebrated Rosie and Dallas’ Nuptial Mass, always gives thoughtful homilies centered on the beauty of Catholic marriage. He also uses plenty of incense throughout the liturgy, which creates the most beautiful hazy light near the altar as the sunlight streams through the windows. It is a small detail, but it adds so much to the atmosphere of the Mass and serves as a beautiful reminder of the sacredness of the sacrament taking place.

The Beauty of an Intimate Catholic Wedding Mass
Rosie and Dallas chose to celebrate their wedding day with only their closest family and friends before planning a larger reception later this summer at Huckleberry Hill Barn in Purcell. I absolutely love this approach because it allows couples to place their full attention on the sacrament while still celebrating with extended family and friends at another time. There was such a sense of peace throughout their day. Nothing felt rushed or overwhelming. The focus remained on the vows they were making, the grace they were receiving, and the people who had walked alongside them in their faith and relationship. An intimate Catholic wedding Mass creates space to truly experience the day instead of simply moving from one event to the next.

Catholic Weddings Don’t Have to Be Large to Be Meaningful
I think one of the biggest misconceptions in wedding planning is that bigger automatically means better. Some of the most meaningful wedding days I’ve photographed have been simple celebrations centered on the Mass, followed by portraits and a meal shared with family and friends. For couples who want their wedding day to focus primarily on the sacrament, a smaller celebration can be a wonderful option. It allows you to slow down, be fully present with one another, and begin your marriage with your attention fixed on what matters most. I also offer Mass and portraits collections for couples planning smaller celebrations like this. Whether your day includes a large reception or simply lunch with your favorite people afterward, your wedding is still worthy of being beautifully documented.
